Understanding recent challenges in electricity market simulation from the perspective of operation research
Abstract:
In this seminar, the fundamentals of US power industry and the deregulated market structure are briefly reviewed. Then, the optimization formulation of the locational marginal pricing (LMP) is presented with discussions in shadow price and congestion cost. Next, the recent challenges and opportunities from renewable energy and demand response integration are discussed. Lastly, several sample research projects related to market studies under uncertainties are presented with models in bi-level optimization, interval mathematics and stochastic optimization.
