TITLE
Towards Brain-Controlled Robots

SPEAKER
Dr. Kai Arulkumaran (Araya Inc.)

ABSTRACT
The mission of the Reinforcement Learning team at Araya, as part of JST Moonshot Goal 1, “Internet of Brains”, is to research general-purpose embodied AI with the goal of developing the brain-robot interfaces of the future. Our areas of research are manipulation skills, planning, scene understanding, and collaboration, requiring working at the intersection of AI, robotics, HCI, and neuroscience. In this talk I will present how we plan to go about this, some of our initial work in this direction, and current work from other researchers that we aim to leverage in the near future.

BIOGRAPHY
Kai is a Research Team Lead at Araya, working on brain-controlled robots as part of the JST Moonshot R&D program. Previously, he completed his PhD in Bioengineering at Imperial College London, and had work experience at DeepMind, FAIR, Microsoft Research, Twitter Cortex, and NNAISENSE. His research areas are deep learning, reinforcement learning, evolutionary computation, and computational neuroscience.
